Авторов музыки и слов песни “We wish you a merry Christmas” установить не представляется возможным, но считается, что эта песня известна в Англии с 16 века. Как все колядки (carols) песня предназначалась для исполнения с целью получения рождественского угощения от зажиточных членов общины. Это отражено и в песне “We wish you a merry Christmas”, когда упоминается a figgy pudding (инжирный пудинг), который колядующие надеются получить.
